Despacito is a song from 2017 that was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top streamed track in the world within the space of six months. In 2017, the single Despacito which was a mix of pop music with reggaeton, not only brought new interest to reggaeton but also increased interest in Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs mainly in Spanish in 2016, compared to just two songs in 2015. During the height of Despacito's popularity, however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 such songs. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages of Despacito (2017) well-known musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna with Maluma in Medellin (2019). The mainstreaming of reggaeton was an issue for certain performers by 2020. Rauw alejandro and a younger generation determined to maintain the style. The genre often incorporated electronic dance as well as different styles.
